In the early hours of the morning, on the 19th of February, Mount Etna (Europe's most active volcano) burst into life, after emitting signs of paroxysm over the recent weeks.
As on of the most active volcanoes in the world Etna is almost constantly erupting lava, but the type of eruption yesterday and the weeks of activity preceding it signal a short, violent stage in the life of the Volcano.
This new eruption stage sent a fire fountain into the air, but Etna is a host to many different types of eruption, including strombolian.
Check out this amazing video of the 19/02/2013 eruption, as shot by Klaus Dorschfeldt of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy.
