Mammoth Cave National Park

On this day (May 25th) 1929, Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky USA, was established (different aspects of the park were added at later dates). The Park encompasses the Earths longest mapped cave system at over 365 miles! The geology of the area (carbonates) combined with a large river and drainage system has formed the extensive cave system. As well as the worlds longest mapped cave it also features an awe inspiring display of "stalactites, stalagmites, helictites, travertine dams, and several types of gypsum formations such as the aptly-named "gypsum flowers.""
